Donetsk national

Medical university

The Ministry of Education and science of Ukraine inaugurated the faculty of Medicine No. 1 in the Donetsk National Medical University in Kramatorsk city. The faculty began training general practitioners of general directions: pharmacy, dentistry, medicine and pediatrics.

Dentistry

Graduates work as dental practitioners, dental surgeons, orthopedic dentists, orthodontists and other specialists. 

Training period – 5 years, for medical colleges’ graduates – 4 years.

Medicine

Graduates work as family doctors, therapists, surgeons of various types, obstetrician-gynecologists, oncologists, ophthalmologists, traumatologists, neuropathologists, psychiatrists, sport medicine doctors, doctors of cosmetology, etc.

Training period – 6 years, for medical colleges’ graduates – 5 years.

Pharmacy

Graduates work as pharmacists, who make medicines, organize drugs’ supply, manage marketing researches, control the quality of drugs, etc.

  Training period in full-time form is 5 years, on the correspondence form for medical colleges’ graduates - 4, 5 years.

Pediatrics

Graduates work as pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, neonatologists, child neuropathologists, child doctors of the other specialties.

Training period – 6 years.

The student acquire the fundamentals of medical and biological knowledge; learn in detail various subjects in the specialty and some clinical ones. On successful completion of study the graduates get the diploma of pharmacist. The faculty trains the students for work at the medical instructions.

A great achievement of the faculty of general medicine of Donetsk National Medical University was that in 1936, 161 students graduated from the faculty and awarded the degree. At that time, there were working 33 departments, employing 23 professors, 34 associate professors, and 24 assistants.

Two weeks after the liberation of the city, September 8, 1943, Donetsk National Medical University started registration of students who interrupted their studies in 1941 because of war and in December 1943 Donetsk medical institute recruited 200 students for a new session and their classes started.

In the 1945-1946 academic year, at the departments of Donetsk medical institute worked 126 teachers, among them 14 professors, 22 associate professors, and candidates of medical sciences.

Introduction to Faculty

The members of the faculty conducted the world-renowned research under the leadership of Professor V.N. Kazakov (Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Owner of the title of Hero of Ukraine, Academician of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine) with Professor G. Cooper (Honored Scientist of Ukraine). Due to outstanding merits of research was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. The faculty members are honorable workers of the National academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Gained world-renown research conducted under the leadership of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Scientist of Ukraine Prof. V. N. Kazakov, Academician of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Scientist of Ukraine Professor G. Cooper, awarded for outstanding merits the title of Hero of Ukraine. In 11 departments of the faculty of General Medicine of Donetsk National Medical University, there works 33 professors, 70 associate professors, and 58 assistant professors. Among them are Professor I.V. Komissarov, Honored Worker of Higher School, State Prize of Ukraine, Professor P.S. Sernyak, Honored Scientist of Ukraine Prof. A.N. Talalaenko and F.Gulmammadov.

Training of physicians is conducted under the guidance of experienced teachers, doctors, and candidates of medical sciences. Teaching is carried out according to modern standards of higher educational establishments. The main goal of the faculty is to prepare qualified physicians, who know perfectly their profession with high fundamentals and training.

In the undergraduate program, during six years of study, the students learn different subjects from fundamental subjects’ disciplines to special medical subjects.

Graduates of the faculty receive the degree of MBBS/MD from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine approves the degree.

All graduates are employed after graduation, which is a confirmation of the high ranking of the Donetsk National Medical University, diligent work of qualified professors and purposeful work of his students.

Foreigners study in groups of 10-12 students along with local students. The second-year students attend their clinical studies where they can gain experience in nursing the patients. Clinical subjects are taught starting from the third year of study. Students can study any topic of interest and raise their level of knowledge in the departments. All six years of the program are important and all must be passed successfully before students are permitted to graduate.

The Ministry of education and Ministry of Public health of Ukraine approved the curriculum of the medical faculty. Almost all the countries of the world accept the degree of Donetsk National Medical University.

The state final examinations on all the disciplines according to the syllabus are held within one system through two stages:

– testing the practical proficiency of final-year students (when exams on clinical disciplines are taken, testing takes place at the patient’s bed)

– testing scientific/theoretical proficiency.

The successful students who will complete study of five years, then on graduation work for another year under probation in order to gain general registration. There is a wide range of specializations available in the public and private sectors, involving research, academic medicine, public health, clinical medicine and other areas. Specialties include Cardiology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Psychological Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Public Health, General Practice and many others. Most doctors complete postgraduate training in their chosen specialty.
